LATEST & GREATEST: NEW REVIEWS, HOT PREVIEWS & CLASSIC GAMES
DRAGON
AGE: ORIGINS
We're
not quite sure how they've done it, but Bioware, the acclaimed
creators of Mass Effect, Knights of the Old Republic and Jade
Empire (among others) have somehow found the time to develop a
full-on fantasy RPG alongside Mass Effect 2.
The
result is an epic tale that blends old-school traditions with
current generation technology, and one that will have you glued
to your Xbox for literally months on end. Your journey of a thousand
gaming hours begins with a single click below...
GRAND
THEFT AUTO: EPISODES FROM LIBERTY CITY
One
of the definitive games of the current generation makes a triumphant
return with not one but two new episodes that were previously
only available for download.
If
you've somehow overlooked Grand Theft Auto IV up until now and
if you somehow didn't get around to downloading The Lost and Damned
or The Ballad of Gay Tony then we're about to make you an offer
that you can't refuse...
BAND
HERO
With
Rock Band providing some serious competition for Guitar Hero,
it was only natural that the series, which had already branched
out, would fully evolve to keep up with its biggest contender.
This
latest release fully embraces the mainstream by delving beyond
its rock origins into pop and fully incorporating more than just
playing the guitar. But is it enough to face down Rock Band 2?
Read on to find out...
BRUTAL
LEGEND
Anyone
who's played Grim Fandango or Psychonauts is likely a big Tim
Schafer fan; the man is a legend in the eyes of many for his quirky
characterisations and his determination to break away from the
norm.
Brutal
Legend is his latest brainchild, where a roadie, based upon Jack
Black, is spirited away to a fantasy world that emulates the insane
and imaginative artwork of heavy metal album covers. Can the implementation
live up to the inspired premise? Headbang this way to find out...
LIPS:
NUMBER ONE HITS
The
Xbox 360 and PS3 war continues with Lips' latest release, Microsoft's
melodic answer to Sony's SingStar.
It
is as good as SingStar and does that really matter, given that
it's pretty much the only option if you don't own Sony's big black
box? If you've got a yearning for some karaoke action then you
can't really go too far wrong with letting these number one hits
pass your lips...
DJ
HERO
With
Cello Hero and Flute Hero in development (maybe), the musical
games revolution continues unabated, this time branching out into
mixing with DJ Hero.
Coming
with the all-new turntable controller, this rhythm-based game
is all about timing your beats and scratches to a host of superb
music of many flavours. As with Guitar Hero before it, it's a
great idea, but does it have as much substance as a Pete Tong
megamix?
MAGNACARTA
II
Love
'em or hate 'em, there's no denying that Japanese RPGs have had
a huge impact on gaming and shaped the RPG landscape since the
birth of the genre.
With
Square Enix dominating the field for many years now, Namco Bandai
have launched into the fray with MagnaCarta II (no, we hadn't
heard of the original, either), the latest JRPG to hit Western
shores. The competition is high so can this make the grade? The
answers, as always, lie within...
NBA
2K10
It's
that time of year again when the sports releases are flying onto
the shelves, and 2K Sports are here with their latest update,
hoping to block EA's attempts to steal the ball and slam dunk
NBA 2K10.
As
with FIFA and PES, the gap has been closing in recent years and
allegiances are being forged and broken; can 2K do enough to fend
off EA or are they about to find themselves on the losing team?
XBOX
LIVE ARCADE - TOWER BLOXX DELUXE
God
bless the Xbox Live Arcade! The PS3 and Wii might have followed
suit, but Microsoft were there first, pioneering the idea of bite-sized
downloadable games all the way back on the original Xbox.
The
downside however is that the Arcade is becoming so cluttered that
it's increasingly hard to separate the wheat from the chaff; but
fear not, as we're on hand to help as usual, this time with a
look at yet another puzzle game, Tower Bloxx Deluxe...
FORZA
MOTORSPORT 3
Forza
Motorsport 3 boasts 400 fully upgradable cars, contextual difficulty,
and a rewind feature to make things more accessible for everybody
- but does it deliver?
Who
am I kidding? Of course it does! In fact, it delivers all that
and more. To find out exactly what the fuss is about I urge you
to pull up inside and take a look - and you can trust me; I'm
not a sleazy used car salesman, I'm not going to pressure you
into buying insurance and I won't be throwing in a free pair of
mats. But I will tell you exactly what to expect from this highly
polished title...
