Ladies and gentleman, we've just received some breaking news from
our field reporter Christopher Martin. Rumors are circulating that
Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney - yes the Phoenix Wright - is
returning to the courtroom for more Trials and Tribulations! We
now go live to Christopher on the ground, who we hear has some sort
of scoop... Chris?
*Huff*
Thank *Huff* you! Whew... *deep breath* I've just managed to catch
up with a member of Phoenix Wright's legal team and though I can't
give you any details about his identity for fear that he will be
mysteriously murdered by a teddy bear bomb planted in his car, he
has promised some exclusive details about Phoenix's latest return
to the court room. ... So spill it!
*Ahem*
Thank you, Chris. While it is true that Phoenix is returning to
the courtroom, I can't divulge specific information about the exact
circumstances of the specific nature of the particular trials brought
forth to Phoenix's attention. If I were in a divulgitory mood, however,
I would tell you that Phoenix is going back to study the late Mia
Fey's first case that involved Phoenix himself as the prime suspect!
But,
and excuse me for asking, why is Phoenix going back to study that?
It can't be a time of his life that he's proud of and certainly
he doesn't need any help or tips. He's an expert lawyer, after all
- an ACE ATTORNEY! Perhaps he's going back to look at Mia Fey's
techniques and no doubt introduce some new ideas and abilities to
his latest court room drama?
While
it is true that Phoenix is indeed an ACE ATTORNEY! it is untrue
that he is looking to bring anything new to these trials. Phoenix
has a winning combination with the tools he has used since his original
adventure and he's not aiming to throw in any gimmicks or risk
trying something different. Sure, trying something different got
him where he is now, but he likes where he is now and is perfectly
happy remaining there. He's just reviewing Mia Fey's trial to polish
off a bit of that courtroom rust before he heads back in.
So
then, we can't expect to see anything new from Phoenix in his latest
trials? I have to admit that this is a real shame - he revolutionized
things years ago with his shocking adventures and conclusions, matched
with the incredible wit he used against classic characters with
completely absurd yet highly amusing names, mannerisms and dialogue.
Phoenix must have something else up his sleeve, surely?
No
sir! He'll still scream objection, he'll still cross-examine witnesses
sentence by sentence and he'll likely even reveal plenty of shocking
twists in the cases that just happen to tie up loose ends from all
of his past adventures. Heck, I'm sure he'll even try to solve some
of these cases early on when the answer is pretty blatant, only
to be turned down by the judge time and time again until the precise
moment when he can finally use the right evidence he's been trying
to submit all along actually presents itself. Phoenix is going into
this courtroom as classic Phoenix and he's taking his spirit medium
Mia Fey with him for advice - I'm sure his on-again off-again
rival and friend Miles Edgeworth will be making a few appearances
too, maybe even taking on a couple of cases of his own!
I
really hate to be rude, but there was recently a story published
about events taking place way back in 1979. They were about a man
named Kyle Hyde who was investigating a package at a place called
Hotel Dusk.
The story went over Kyle's adventure and the way he used very unconventional
techniques to solve mysteries, as well as his interaction with all
the people within the hotel, solving their mysteries while at the
same time driving his own further. It was engaging to say the least
and the way he took advantage of the tools he was given to progress
was really incredible - revolutionary even - for adventure fanatics.
In fact, it seems a lot like the reaction the public had to Phoenix
first rise to fame as a lawyer. But as you said, Phoenix seems to
be remaining static, unwilling to add any new innovations or techniques
to his arsenal. Are you sure this is a good idea, especially considering
that Phoenix will be stepping down to be replaced by Apollo Justice
in February?
That's
just it! Apollo Justice is taking over soon and this is Phoenix's
last hurrah! He isn't going to spend time developing new techniques;
he's just going to do exactly what he does best - what we love him
for! He's going to solve some truly memorable cases, which will
no doubt he hilarious and engaging, all while conveniently wrapping
up his past and the other subplots that have been following him
for years! Sure, the visuals might seem familiar, such as the way
Phoenix and everybody else moves, but that's just because we're
replaying the same footage from his first trials over the dialogue
for the new ones. This is a courtroom after all... no video recordings
are allowed, as you know!
Well
sir, I don't doubt that Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney is going to
be highly entertaining as always in his latest Trials and Tribulations.
I expect to laugh and be thoroughly engaged, as you stated, but
I must maintain that we are all a bit sad to see Phoenix remain
perfectly content with his style. He does have problems that he
simply refuses to address and his regular schtick has lost some
of the appeal it had when he first thrust himself into the courtroom.
Perhaps he could have learned a few things from Kyle Hyde and his
escapades in Hotel Dusk, but hopefully Apollo Justice will introduce
some fresh new techniques to the courtroom when he steps up to become
the next ACE ATTORNEY! Thank you for your time, my anonymous source...
Thank
you!
