Beta Testers Wanted to Compete Against Each Other for Cash in Leading Online Games

San Francisco, CA - March 29, 2007 - Tournament.com today announced that it will soon offer gamers the ability to play top online games for money in a safe and secure environment. The company is currently looking for beta testers to help test its forthcoming service and is giving players $1 for every match they complete during the beta phase, which can then be used when the service goes live. Launching later this spring, Tournament.com has already signed up more than 5,000 gamers who are ready to compete online.

"We are building a unique online platform for gamers to compete in their favorite multiplayer games, while bringing competitive gaming to the mainstream," said Marcus Pearcey, cofounder of Tournament.com. "Much like golfers or chess players can compete against each other in tournaments, Tournament.com users can prove their skills and make some cash in secure, fair, competitive matches that reward winners with more than just bragging rights."

Skill-based gaming is a natural evolution for games given the competitive environment they present, and the ability to monetize a player's abilities in the matches they win. "Professional athletes can enter competitions to earn financial rewards," said Richard Skelhorn, cofounder of Tournament.com. "We believe that gamers deserve the same opportunities to showcase their talents."

Tournament.com is committed to providing a secure and safe playing environment. All users must go through a verification process to prove that they are over the age of 18, and to ensure responsible gaming, users may not deposit more than $150 per month into their account. The site's Smartrank ranking system allows players to view other users' skill levels, and there is a handicap system in place to allow players of all levels to play against one another. Tournament.com makes its money from charging a small service charge for hosting each game.

Participating beta testers can download and install the service client from the Tournament.com website, which gives access to the online gaming service. Testers earn $1 in credit for each completed match; all credit will be deposited in the gamer's account upon the site's official launch.

KUMA GAMES ANNOUNCES “TUNNEL RATS”

New York, NY (March 27, 2007) –Kuma Games, industry leader in the new market for episodic video games, today announced the release of “Tunnel Rats,” a new game episode based on the winning submission of the Kuma Episode Design Contest by U.S. Army Veteran, Combat Medic Mike Fitzgerald. The contest was an open invitation to budding developers and avid gamers to blueprint the next Kuma title. “Tunnel Rats,” a squad-based mission through darkened tunnels and into enemy compounds, is now available for free download at www.KumaGames.com.

“It’s really exciting for me to be able to honor my uncle and his fellow soldiers; they are American heroes and their story deserves to be told,” said Fitzgerald. “I’m thrilled to have been selected because it is an opportunity to recognize their fight for our freedom, as well as a chance for me to pursue my own passion for gaming.”

“We had many excellent submissions for the Kuma Games Episode Design Contest, but ‘Tunnel Rats’ stood out from the rest,” said Keith Halper, CEO of Kuma Games. “Our audience has come to expect games each week that stand on their own as action entertainment, but also deliver the emotional power of great television. Guild Wars 2 and Guild Wars Expansion Announced

NCsoft, ArenaNet reveal future plans for high-flying online roleplaying franchise; Guild Wars Eye of the North scheduled for Q3 2007 release

Tuesday 27th March/...NCsoft® Europe and ArenaNet® today revealed their exciting plans for the future of the hugely successful Guild Wars® franchise. The companies announced that development already is underway on a full sequel to the original Guild Wars games. Guild Wars 2™ will draw from the game mechanics that made the original Guild Wars one of the most popular online games ever and will add a fully persistent world. It was also revealed that, like its predecessors, Guild Wars 2 will not have a subscription fee. No launch date was announced, but the ArenaNet team anticipates that Guild Wars 2 will go into beta sometime in the second half of 2008.

In addition, ArenaNet developers are working on the first true expansion for the Guild Wars franchise, Guild Wars Eye of the North™. Due to hit store shelves during the Q3 2007, Guild Wars Eye of the North™ will require at least one of the previous Guild Wars campaigns (Prophecies™, Factions™, or Nightfall™) in order to play. It’s a game that will benefit long-time players of the Guild Wars games, with all of the content targeting existing Guild Wars characters.

“We felt it was extremely important to reward those people who have been playing Guild Wars since the game first launched in 2005,” said Jeff Strain, co-founder of ArenaNet. “Those players have seen three very large campaigns created in a little under two years and so we think it’s time to begin filling in the details of the existing world and to provide more content for current characters. We are thrilled to focus our time on something that our players have been asking for.”

Set largely in the dungeons and caverns of the lands of Tyria that players first explored in Guild Wars Prophecies, Guild Wars Eye of the North will have 18 large, multi-level dungeons, 150 new skills across all 10 Guild Wars professions, 10 new Heroes, 40 new armor sets, and even more items, weapons and titles.

And for those looking even further down the road at Guild Wars 2, Guild Wars Eye of the North will provide a Hall of Monuments where players' accomplishments are memorialized and eventually inherited by their Guild Wars 2 characters, unlocking exclusive items and bonuses in Guild Wars 2.

“It’s the payoff we hope players will appreciate as we continue to build on the Guild Wars franchise,” said Strain. “We’re excited to announce these two new products and we want players to know that Guild Wars has an extremely exciting future in the months and years ahead.”

More information on the Guild Wars franchise can be found at http://www.guildwars.com.

MINION MAYHEM SET FOR CODEMASTERS’ OVERLORD COMING THIS SUMMER TO THE XBOX 360 AND PC

New Overlord Game Trailer Now Available Online

Burbank, CA – Friday, March 23, 2007 – Codemasters is bringing minion mayhem to gamers this summer in Overlord™, a game that gives players hordes of evil, gremlin-like critters and a peaceful land for them to reek havoc on. Additionally, Codemasters today released a new minion teaser video which is available for download now at www.codemasters.com/overlord. Created by Triumph Studios, Overlord is set to ship this summer for the Xbox 360™ videogame and entertainment system from Microsoft and the PC, and is currently rated “RP” (Rating Pending) by the ESRB.

In Overlord, the minions constitute the evil Overlord’s army and are the key gameplay mechanic. Completely and utterly loyal to him, minions will use their unique skills to fetch, fight and even die for their master. Their loyalty knows no limits and their bravery borders on stupidity, but with every bone in their odd little bodies, the minions will follow players’ commands no matter how despotic or life threatening they are.

The minions can be controlled generally in two different ways: either by moving the horde as a group, or by independently firing them off like some destruction-crazed, reusable missiles. Players will be able to send individual minions to take on smaller jobs, or they can select a posse from their horde to take on bigger tasks.

Once a minion has been dispatched on a job, its little minion brain kicks in to determine the best course of action. For instance, if the player sends a minion to kill a sheep, it will attack, then automatically pickup and return with the sheep’s life force, which can then be used later on to create more minions. Minions can also be used to carry objects (including much larger ones if they work together), operate mechanisms, and get to places where the Overlord can not.

As the Overlord grows more and more powerful and evil, the minions will grow as well, getting a bit more powerful and evil at the same time. Opportunists by nature, if they can rob an opponent of a mighty axe to wield themselves, or steal some armor to wear for protection, they will. Whether axes, knives, chef’s hats, pitchforks or even emptied out pumpkins, whatever the case is, minions aren’t fussy as long as it gives them the fighting edge.

Further to collecting weapons and armor for themselves, the minions will return to the Overlord with gold and other goodies. Unfortunately, minions have their weaknesses too though: the beautiful (yet fatal) succubus can lure them to their deaths, and they’re easily distracted from their missions by music and alcohol (which makes them increasingly more violent and out of control than normal).

As the Overlord, players can amass an army of up to 50 minions (with hundreds more in reserve) made up of four different breeds:

  • Brown Minions – The Fighters. These are the strongest minions for combat. They will pick up dropped equipment from defeated foes and use it for themselves – pitchforks, severed unicorn horns and the like are some favorites.
  • Red Minions – The Fire Throwers. These minions are like archers who hurl blazing fireballs to defeat opponents from a distance. Also, immune to fire, they can clear dangerous paths for the Overlord and the rest of the horde.
  • Green Minions – The Assassins. These minions love their stealth attacks. They’ll try to get behind an enemy, jump on their back and then stab them viciously to death – great for ambushes. They’re also immune to poisoning and can turn rubbish left on the battlefield into upgrades.
  • Blue Minions – The Healers. These are the smartest of the minions, and the only ones who have the ability to swim. Blue minions can also resurrect fallen minions, and get them ready to join the fight once again.

Minions – use them tactically and these evil little comrades will always be there for their master, ready to sacrifice themselves and their lives in servitude to the Overlord.

BRANSTON PIRATE IN PICKLE

Wednesday 21st March 2007/… A Staffordshire market trader who was caught by Trading Standards officers with thousands of illegally copied games and counterfeit DVDs at his Branston home could face jail.

Jason Andrew Duesbury, 37, of Branston – a suburb of Burton, Staffordshire, admitted 17 offences under the Trademarks Act, following a private prosecution brought by Staffordshire County Council at Burton Magistrates Court on 7th March. Trading Standards officers, police and ELSPA investigators swooped on Duesbury’s home on 22nd September last year, where more than 300 illegally copied Xbox and PlayStation 2 games together with over 1,500 counterfeit DVDs were discovered in an upstairs office of the premises. A stash of adult films were also seized in the raid.

A PC and memory stick, as well as four duplicators and three chipped Xbox consoles, were also seized. Trading Standards staff worked with ELSPA investigators and other industry experts to establish that all 2,000-plus titles were counterfeit and bore unauthorised trademarks, the court heard.

Michael Rawlinson, managing director of ELSPA commented: “ELSPA would like to thank everyone involved for their work instigating this investigation and helping to protect local traders and the general community from the effects of pirated goods.”

Roger Constantine, prosecuting, said: "Duplicators have one use and one use only — that is to make copies of discs. "All the items seized were taken back to Stafford, where Trading Standards officers worked with representatives from the industry to establish that all the discs were counterfeit copies with unauthorised trademarks.

"The computer contained programmes to decrypt security devices which usually prevent authentic discs from being copied, and the memory stick included artwork for inlays and covers for Xbox games and films."

Mr Constantine added: "This is often described as victimless crime, but nothing could be further from the truth. There are the companies that produce the original items which lose money, but it also hits the trader in the high street, who loses out through people selling counterfeits on the markets."

Duesbury, who usually sold jewellery on his market stall, admitted trading in and producing pirated and counterfeit material when questioned. He said he had been trading in the illegal items for around a year and knew that he was breaking the law.

The case was adjourned until 2nd April for pre-sentence reports. Magistrates warned Duesbury that his case may be transferred to Staffordshire Crown Court for sentencing, as the maximum six months in jail that they are allowed to impose may not be sufficient.

Splitfish FragFX controller brings PC style gameplay to the Playstation 3

Mar 20, 2007 Innovative peripheral maker SplitFish GameWare, Inc today officially announced the company’s upcoming FragFX game controller for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system. The patent pending FragFX features a separate right hand mouse controller and detachable left hand grip controller, ideal for experiencing the traditional PC mouse and keyboard style gameplay of shooter games in a console environment. Key FragFX controller features include:

* The right hand mouse controller has the complete set of PlayStation 3 controller buttons. The mouse is used during game play to shoot, look left, right, up and down for that same PC style game play experience on the PlayStation 3.

* The mouse is optimized for navigation within the recently announced PlayStation Home virtual world.

* A menu mode on the mouse allows it to double as a regular mouse during menu selections. A lap mouse pad and left hand grip cradle is included with the FragFX to allow for comfortable play in a living room setting.

* The left hand re-programmable grip (nicknamed the “FragChuck” by G4TV) has the full range of 6-axis motion control providing Wii-like motion sensitivity for the PlayStation 3. In games like Resistance:Fall of Man, to reload a weapon or to rifle butt an opponent, the user can swing the FragChuck.

* The FragChuck also offers a game speed dial and frag button. When the frag button is pressed it slows the mouse down to incremental movement for smooth sniper shots. The speed dial allows for instant fast or slow overall game play. These two additional features let the user get out of battles as fast as they get into them.

Already SplitFish is generating buzz among gamers with their groundbreaking controller technology for PlayStation consoles. SplitFish CEO Cisco Schipperheijn remarked, “For years, first person shooter players have had less than an optimum experience when playing on a console. SplitFish’s FragFX brings PC-like movement, precision and performance to the console FPS. The mouse in combination with the FragChuck is a huge advancement in pushing the limits of immersive game play.”

SplitFish’s FragFX provides universal game support and is expected to ship next month, with a wired version retailing for $59.99 and later a Bluetooth wireless version for $69.99. A limited amount of units will be reserved for European customers. The company previously released an award-winning FPS control system for the PlayStation®2 computer entertainment system, called EdgeFX.

European PLAYSTATION 3 Compatibility Site Launches Early

London, 20 March 2007 – Sony Computer Entertainment Europe today launched the web site that will allow prospective PLAYSTATION®3 owners to see which of their PlayStation®2 titles are playable on the new European PS 3 hardware model.

The web site at http://faq.eu.playstation.com/bc lists those titles from the portfolio of PS2 titles available in the SCEE PAL territories that are playable on PS3.

"Our engineers have been working overtime, and have succeeded in delivering a significant number of playable PS2 titles for the European launch", said David Reeves, President of SCEE. "We will be adding additional titles to this list in future firmware upgrades, but as we have made clear before, in the future our resources will be increasingly focused on developing new services and entertainment features exclusively for PS3, rather than on delivering PS2 backwards compatibility.”

New owners of a European PS3 will need to install the latest firmware upgrade to play the PS2 titles listed on the web site. The upgrade will be available at launch from midnight on 22nd March through the PLAYSTATION®Network, from http://www. PlayStation.com or, for those unable to access the internet, on a disc obtained from local Customer Services.

The latest system software upgrade (Version 1.60) will deliver features such as Folding@home connectivity, background downloading of content from the PLAYSTATION®Store, support for Bluetooth® keyboards and mice, and an optional full QWERTY on-screen keyboard for text entry.

The Folding@home project allows PS3 owners to connect to Stanford University’s Folding@home program, a distributed computing project aimed at understanding protein folding, misfolding, and related diseases, such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and many cancers. Using the power of the Cell Broadband Engine™, PS3 system can perform computer simulations for the Folding@home program ten times faster than your average home PC. Once PS3 system is updated to version 1.60, users can easily sign up to join the Folding@home program by clicking on the appropriate logo on the XMB™ (XrossMediaBar) under the Network icon. Then, when the PS3 system is left on and reaches idle mode, it will automatically begin a simulation and, once completed, send information back to a central computer(*1). Additional details about Folding@home are available at http://www.scei.co.jp/folding/en/.

Firmware Version 1.60 also delivers a more convenient process for downloading content to the PS3 from the PLAYSTATION Store. Up to 6 pieces of content from the PlayStation store can be queued up for download while the user enjoys other functions of the PS3 system, including playing games, browsing the web, using media functions including photo browsing, video and music playback. Progress of downloads can be easily tracked under a new Download Management menu under the XMB’s Network icon(2).

Firmware 1.60 also provides support for keyboards and mice enabled with Bluetooth wireless technology. Text entry is further expanded with the option to use a full QWERTY on-screen keyboard, in addition to the existing single tap keyboard. PS3’s built-in Web browser is also enhanced with the ability to zoom in to the optimal viewing size for the selected area of a Web page at the press of a button, as well as an optional tool for reducing flicker when the PS3 system is using interlaced video out (480i or 1080i).

(*1) To run the application automatically in idle state, PS3 must be connected to the network with both main power switch and power button turned on. Option setting must also be changed as this automatic feature is off at default.

LONDON — March 20, 2007 Capcom, a leading worldwide developer and publisher of video games, today announced that the highly anticipated Devil May Cry 4, already in development for Sony Computer Entertainment’s PLAYSTATION 3 (PS3™), is now also in development for the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and for PC. Each version of the game will be maximized to take advantage of the systems’ strengths, leading to a breath-taking visual and gameplay experience. Devil May Cry 4 will be released simultaneously for the PS3 and Xbox 360 system.

“Capcom is committed to making its titles available to as wide an audience as possible, and has been building its technology base to meet that goal,” said Mark Beaumont, executive vice president, officer and head of Capcom consumer software publishing in the Americas and Europe. “This announcement means that PS3, Xbox 360 and PC owners worldwide will be able to experience the latest instalment of one of Capcom’s pillar franchises.”

From the producer of the original Devil May Cry and Resident Evil 4 comes the next instalment in the hugely successful stylized action series that has so far achieved global sales of nearly seven million units. Devil May Cry 4 immerses gamers in a gothic supernatural world, where a new protagonist clashes with a familiar hero. As the new leading man, Nero, players will unleash incredible attacks and non-stop combos using a unique new gameplay mechanic, his powerful “Devil Bringer” arm.

With the advanced graphical capabilities of the next-gen systems, high definition visuals and intricate detail come to life as players explore new and exotic locales. Dynamic action and undeniable style combine with unprecedented fighting options and a gripping story to produce the incomparable experience that only a Devil May Cry game can deliver.

Con Confirmed Completely

The Con Release Date Confirmed For Late March

Tuesday 20th March/... SouthPeak Games has confirmed that its innovative Sony PSP® fighting title, The Con, will be released in the UK on March 30th. The Con combines a deep, tactically complex fighting engine with a unique gambling system and plenty of scope for player character customisation, making it one of the most distinctive fighting games to come to any format – handheld or otherwise.

Developed in Japan by Think And Feel Inc, The Con tells the story of a fighter indebted to an influential organiser of illegal street fights. The game’s objective is to make money through fighting, but all is not as it seems and not all fights are created equal.

In some clashes, the player will have to take their fare share of tactical losses as well as striving for pugilistic victory. This skewing of priorities is supported by a betting system that allows the player to gamble on either side winning each fight. This opens up new avenues for generating cash via subterfuge and feint as well as guile and technique, where making money may be more important than winning with honour.

The Con’s versatile fighting engine opens up tactical possibilities never seen before in a fighting game. Punches can be faked, guards can be deliberately lowered and dives to the floor can be initiated, making The Con the only game where losing a fight can benefit the player more than winning – provided it’s done convincingly. If the crowd don’t buy your performance, you’ll lose your winnings. Fights aren’t strictly a one-on-one affair, either. Battles can involve up to three fighters on each side.

The Con also provides a remarkable amount of player customisation. The player’s team of three characters can be moulded with an exemplary range of appearance-altering options. Physique, clothing and accessories are all up for modification and the ability to import photographs allows for an infinite number of player faces – familiar, famous or otherwise.

Also part of The Con’s complex package is the multiplayer mode, which takes a traditional route of providing one-on-one matches. Single-UMD game sharing is included, but players with two copies of The Con get the added benefit of being able to place unlocked items as a stake in their victory.

As part of the enhancements introduced for the UK release of The Con, players will find loading times have been shortened and tweaks have been made to the overall difficulty level.

This refined version of The Con will be released for the Sony PSP® on March 30th.

hope is to depend on the ancient powers of the mask to give him the strength
and courage to find Jennifer. Now Rick's fight has begun! Splatter your way
through 7 stages of side-scrolling horror action. Armed with cleavers and

Halo 3 released for September?

With Microsoft and Bungie Studios only commenting on a autumn release, sources including a big name developer and publishing house have spoken of a release of Halo 3 in September.

Rather than a presumed November release date, this early shipping of the game would give Microsoft an advantage with sales of its units and the game before the big holiday rush.
Though this sounds like only America woule be getting the early release making us gamers in Europe wait as usual and Japan not even noticing.

A Microsoft Rep only commented that Halo 3 is due for release in the autumn with no day or month being confirmed.

So again rumours fly about the games release date and the content, but with two large and established sources releasing this information too a well known gaming site this information mite be more credible than most.

Only time and the progress of the beta testing will tell as pushing the games release a whole two months before schedule is a massive undertaking though Bungie has been running smoothly with the development of this title with no huge delays.

Nintendo News: Wii Wins Again

According to independent sales data released by the NPD Group, the Wii(TM) from Nintendo was America's best-selling video game console in the U.S. again in February, with consumers snapping up virtually every system available in America totaling more than 335,000 units.

Only one game system sold more in February, the portable Nintendo DS(TM), with sell-through of 485,000 units.

Together, Nintendo systems represented 54 percent of all hardware sales in February, more than those of all other manufacturers combined.

"We're gratified that the explosive appeal of Wii, in terms of both new players and new ways to play, has created unprecedented demand, substantially beyond supply," says Reggie Fils-Aime, president, Nintendo of America. "But we also understand that there are hundreds of thousands of consumers still waiting to get their hands on the system so we continue to both ship more units to retail every week and work non-stop to build capacity."

Reports from households across the country indicate that Wii has become the centerpiece for weekend parties, a new method for improving athletic technique and losing weight, and a landmark product for generating cross-generational fun.

The strength of Wii and Nintendo DS was also apparent in monthly software sales where three of the top four best-selling games for the month (Wii Play(TM) and The Legend of Zelda(R): Twilight Princess for Wii, and Diddy
Kong(R) Racing DS for Nintendo DS) play exclusively on Nintendo systems. In addition, so far this year 10 of the top 20 best-selling games are exclusive for Nintendo hardware.

HARRY POTTER AND THE ORDER OF THE PHOENIX

Electronic Arts (NASDAQ:ERTS) and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment today announced that the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix™ videogame is in development. The game is scheduled for a July 2007 release to coincide with the Warner Bros. Pictures film based on J.K. Rowling’s fifth book of the same title.

“Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is the first in the franchise that we have developed for the next generation consoles,” said Harvey Elliott, Executive Producer at EA UK. “Together with current generation versions, we are creating an immersive and, above all, faithful Harry Potter experience that will both accurately reflect the world showcased in the film and also delight fans of all ages.”

“Working with EA, we look forward to offering fans the most authentic Harry Potter game to date, one which captures the compelling story of the fiction and high visual quality of the movie,” said Jason Hall, Senior Vice President of Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. “After reading the book and seeing the film, fans will be able to take advantage of the complete interactive experience with Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix game.”

The close and synergistic relationship between book, film and videogame is more defined in the Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix videogame than ever before. Players will be able to explore the many key locations within Hogwarts in minute detail, each one a visual match to its film equivalent, while being engrossed in the thrilling adventures outlined in the rich narrative of the book.

In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Harry returns for his fifth year of study at Hogwarts and discovers that much of the wizarding community is in denial about the teenager’s recent encounter with the evil Lord Voldemort, preferring to turn a blind eye to the news that Voldemort has returned. Fearing that Hogwarts’ venerable Headmaster, Albus Dumbledore, is lying about Voldemort’s return in order to undermine his power and take his job, the Minister for Magic, Cornelius Fudge, appoints a new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher to keep watch over Dumbledore and the Hogwarts students. But Professor Dolores Umbridge’s Ministry-approved course of defensive magic leaves the young wizards woefully unprepared to defend themselves against the dark forces threatening them and the entire wizarding community, so at the prompting of his friends Hermione and Ron, Harry takes matters into his own hands. Meeting secretly with a small group of students who name themselves “Dumbledore’s Army,” Harry teaches them how to defend themselves against the Dark Arts, preparing the courageous young wizards for the extraordinary battle that lies ahead.

With the ability to play multiple characters, including Harry Potter, Dumbledore and Sirius Black, the videogame of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix offers fans the opportunity to wield a wand, explore all around Hogwarts, and experience one of the most exciting and dangerous years in the life of the Boy Who Lived.

Under development by EA’s UK Studio, the team behind the worldwide success of the Harry Potter library of games, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix is scheduled for release for the Nintendo Wii„§, PLAYSTATION®3, Xbox 360™, PlayStation®2, PSP® (PlayStation®Portable), Nintendo DS„§, Game Boy® Advance, and Windows PC.

EA'S BURNOUT 5 CRASHES ONTO PLAYSTATION 3 AND XBOX 360

Buckle up and prepare to unleash automotive anarchy in the ultimate burner’s paradise. Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: ERTS) today announced that Burnout™ 5 is in development for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360™ video game system from Microsoft®.

Burnout 5 gives players license to wreak havoc in Paradise City, the ultimate seamless racing battleground, with a massive infrastructure of traffic-heavy roads to abuse. Gone is the need to jump in and out of menus and aimlessly search for fun like many open world games; in Burnout 5, every inch of the world is built to deliver heart-stopping Burnout-style gameplay. Every intersection is a potential crash junction and every alleyway is an opportunity to rack up moving violations.

Of course, rules are made to be broken, and when gamers enter Paradise City, they’re assigned a Drivers License that quickly begins to amass a record of player’s most aggressive, reckless and destructive exploits behind the wheel. But it’s not the law that’s eyeing player’s progress … when gamers push things too hard they’ll be squaring off against the city’s most infamous burners, and these legends aren’t interested in who crosses the finish line first.

“Burnout 5 is a complete reinvention of the series, built from the ground up for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360,” said Alex Ward, director of game design at Criterion Games. “To create truly next-generation gameplay, we needed to create a truly next-generation game, from top to bottom.”

Burnout 5 also delivers the next level of speed and destruction, with brand new next-generation technology allowing gamers to literally rip their cars in half, in the most explosive pile-ups in the series’ history.

Burnout 5 will ship in 2007 under the EA™ brand and was developed by Criterion Games in Guildford, UK. For more information about the Burnout franchise, please visit www.electronicarts.co.uk.

EA UNVEILS ARMY OF TWO FOR XBOX 360 & PS3

You're not alone soldier, not anymore. Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: ERTS) today unveiled details of the action title that has been kept top secret for the past year. Developed at EA's boutique production house in Montréal, Canada, the new, original intellectual property will redefine strategic TWO man cooperative play when it launches on the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and Xbox360TM videogame system from Microsoft in 2007. ARMY OF TWOTM will throw gamers into hot spots ripped from current day headlines where they will utilize unique TWO man strategies and tactics while seamlessly transitioning between playing with intelligent Partner AI (PAI) and a live player. When one man is not enough, it will take an army of two to fight through war, political turmoil and a conspiracy so vast it threatens the entire world.

Alain Tascan, VP and General Manager of EA Montréal has been serving as Executive Producer on the title. Tascan comments, "ARMY OF TWO is a first for EA in many ways. This is the first EA studio to be built entirely from the ground-up. This is EA's first original title for the next-gen systems. ARMY OF TWO is the first game to put players inside tactical warfare involving Private Military Corporations."

Reid Schneider, Senior Producer at EA Montréal noted, "This is the game we've always wanted to create. Until now, the hardware would not allow us to deliver truly intelligent AI characters. We've built this game with co-operative TWO man gameplay as the centerpiece of the experience. Whether you're playing with PAI or a friend, it's about the TWO man missions, TWO man strategies and the TWO man advantage that really sets this game apart."

EA established a state-of-the-art studio in downtown Montréal in 2003. It has since drawn some of the industry's most talented creative specialists – programmers, digital artists, 3D animators, lighting experts, modellers, writers, directors, musicians and audio engineers.

MySims Created Especially for the Wii and Nintendo DS

Electronic Arts announced today that the company is developing MySims™, the first game in a revolutionary new line from the developers of the blockbuster franchise The Sims, designed especially for the Wii™ and Nintendo DS™ platforms.

MySims introduces a charming cast of whimsical characters while delivering the creativity, customization and classic open-ended gameplay that has enchanted Sims players worldwide. Players begin by creating their own toy-like Sim that reflects their personal style and attitudes. From pig-tails and baseball caps to dreadlocks and Mohawks, the options are endless and the style is unlike any Sims game to date. By unlocking cool new clothing, hairstyles and accessories, players explore the game’s incredible depth of customization and expression… and the characters are just the beginning!

Transforming the traditional Sims gameplay for the Wii and Nintendo DS platforms, MySims moves the player to a delightful but disorganized town where – thanks to the easy and unique controls – they can re-shape everything and make it their own. The town is rundown, but the player can make it much more dynamic. Using a selection of building blocks, unique patterns and engaging creativity tools, players can design furniture and appliances, architect new homes and businesses, and re-define the entire MySims landscape!

As players explore and build up the town, they will get to know dedicated, long-time residents like the always-busy Mayor Rosalyn P. Marshall and Buddy – the mostly-lazy hotel Bellhop. Once things start to look up, they’ll meet and choose from a variety of colorful, would-be residents. Will they build a restaurant for Gino Delicioso the Italian Chef, or will they help Ocean Breeze set up his Yoga studio instead?

Design is everyone’s domain in MySims. From building a new Pizza Oven for Gino to putting the finishing touches on a new roof for Buddy’s busy hotel, each completed task will help the town grow. As it expands to new areas, players will receive special building blocks, decorations and patterns which help customize their unique creations. From furniture and buildings to the town as a whole, every choice informs how residents and visitors feel and behave.

“We want MySims to provide a creative play experience like never before on a video game system,” said Executive Producer Tim LeTourneau. “By giving players the tools to create literally any kind of world they want in MySims, we’re reinforcing the idea that the players create the magic. Will the town support a plethora of spooky, mysterious townsfolk – or buzz with the laughter and smiles of fun-loving Sims? It’s your call! In MySims, what players make… makes all the difference!”

MySims will be available for the Wii and Nintendo DS platforms in Autumn 2007.

EA BRINGS SIMCITY TO Nintendo DS

Electronic Arts (Nasdaq: ERTS) announced today that the SimCity™ franchise is returning with SimCity™ DS, developed especially for the Nintendo DS™ platform. In addition to creating and growing their very own pocket sized city while being on-the-go, players will be able to leverage the unique action features of the Nintendo DS system, discovering an entirely new way to play this internationally acclaimed franchise. The product will make its debut to consumers worldwide in summer of this year.

True to the SimCity series, players will be able to create and control their city in the palm of their hands…and much more. Maximizing the stylus and built-in microphone controls of the Nintendo DS, SimCity DS brings to the franchise like never before the feeling of personal involvement with your city—from blowing into the microphone to put out fires in the city to signing off on mayoral proclamations with your stylus. By enabling the players to communicate with each other, the “wireless data exchange” feature brings additional interactivity into the game. As an added bonus to SimCity fans around the world, the game also offers a wide array of recognizable international landmarks to spice up your city.

“We are very excited to bring the SimCity experience to the Nintendo DS platform,” said Takahiro Murakami, Producer of SimCity DS. “The unique Nintendo DS functionalities inspired us to incorporate many new features to delight the most dedicated SimCity fans. The game is filled with fun surprises that will appeal to new and existing fans of the franchise.”

HIT SONGS FOR THE SIMS

Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: ERTS) today revealed the impressive soundtrack for The Sims™ 2 Seasons. Fans of The Sims games will be thrilled to learn they can hear their favorite musical acts—artists like Lily Allen, The Veronicas and The String Cheese Incident—reinterpret favorite hits in Simlish, the native language of The Sims. The Sims is the blockbuster video game franchise that celebrates self-expression through virtual, everyday life.

“Recording “SMILE” was a great experience for me. Sometimes revenge can be fun,” said Lily Allen. “But getting to sing it again—IN SIMLISH—came very naturally and it was hilarious to practice! The silly language and whimsy of The Sims games are a perfect fit for the song. I was laughing the entire time!”

“Being well-versed in improvisation, we felt up for the challenge of re-recording our song, ‘Close Your Eyes’ in Simlish. The Sims' language may be a bit unfamiliar, but musically it actually translates fairly smoothly; its cadence is quite musical,” said Kyle Hollingsworth of The String Cheese Incident.

"EA leads the industry in creating groundbreaking music for our top-selling titles, and The Sims is perhaps the most unique opportunity in the world today. It takes a special kind of artist to accept the challenge and have fun with the experience. Lily Allen, The Veronicas and String Cheese Incident all brought tremendous creativity and enthusiasm to their sessions, and the result is some of the most surprising songs yet in a Sims game. We're proud to have their hits in 'Simlish' for our worldwide audience of more than 85 million Sims fans," said Steve Schnur, Executive of Worldwide Music and Marketing at EA.

Fans are encouraged to check out Simlish tracks of The String Cheese Incident, The Veronicas, as well as a Sims-animated video for Lily Allen’s “Smile” by visiting http://www.thesims2.co.uk/lily_allen

Microsoft unveils four games created by four teams in just in four days using XNA Game Studio Express

On Monday, March 5, at the start of the Game Developers Conference in San Francisco, four community game developer teams from four different countries each set out to create an original game using XNA Game Studio Express in just four days.

Today, the XNA Game Studio Express Challenge teams, together with Microsoft, unveiled their completed games to the public at the Game Developers Conference in celebration of the launch of the “Dream-Build-Play” global game design contest. The “Dream-Build-Play” contest offers aspiring game developers the opportunity to showcase their game design ideas and talent to the world, as well as the chance to have the top game published on Xbox LIVE Arcade.

Each XNA Game Studio Express Challenge team worked from Monday, March 5, to Thursday, March 8, at Windows Vista stations in the XNA Lobby Bar at the Game Developers Conference to bring their game to life.

The four games include:

“DungeonQuest,” a 3D action RPG from independent game developers Benjamin Nitschke and Christoph Rienaecker from exDream in Germany. Benjamin and Christoph managed to include two player co-op multiplayer in this expansive dungeon crawler.

“Simian Escape,” from independent game developers Jonathon Stevens and Patrick Glanville from the United States, is a 2D run-and-jump game in a prehistoric setting built with the help of Torque X.

“Damage Control” is a game created by hobbyist game developer Josh Butterworth from the United Kingdom with the remote assistance of Maher “m0dus” Al-Samkari and the NeoGAF community. “Damage Control” is a four player multiplayer siege game where you must defend your base from wave after wave of invading aliens.

“AbduX,” from graduate student game developer Andre Furtado from Brazil, is a zany action game that turns the tables on the classic humanity vs. aliens formula. This time, the player assumes the role of an alien and pilots a flying saucer through the countryside to abduct unsuspecting earthlings while trying to avoid detection. What’s impressive about “AbduX” is how it incorporates voice recognition commands to control functions of the spacecraft.

The games are now available for download by the public for free on http://creators.xna.com/ final screenshots of the games can be found on http://assets.xbox.com/en-us/gdc2007/screenshots/XNAChallenge.zip. Anyone with XNA Game Studio Express can play the games on a Windows PC. You can design your own game by downloading XNA Game Studio Express for free at msdn.xna.com.

Forza Motorsport 2 Update: American Production Cars, Livery Editor, GDC, and More

Greetings!

For all you lovers of good ol’ American muscle cars, we’re announcing the line up of more than 50 American production cars that will be included in “Forza Motorsport 2,” nearly half of which will be making their Forza debut when the game launches worldwide in May. Whether it’s new interpretations of muscle cars from yesteryear like the 2007 Shelby GT 500, old classics like the 1969 Camaro SS Coupe or today’s hottest sports cars like the 2006 Chevy Corvette Z06, we’re sure one of your favorite American sports cars is on our list.

Speaking of cars, we also wanted to elaborate on a very exciting new feature that will be included in “Forza Motorsport 2” – the Livery Editor. The Livery Editor adds a whole new level of customization to the game, giving the Forza community the freedom to truly “build their dream vehicle” using any of the 300+ cars in the game. With the new and improved Livery Editor, gamers can put their own personal touch on every vehicle in their garage using unique paint schemes, personalized decals and logos, as well as their own art creations. And thanks to the Xbox LIVE Auction House, you can lock down the design on your masterpiece, put it up for virtual sale and share it with the world -- or at least the highest bidder. Who knows, maybe you’ll be lucky enough to see that your next great creation helped some lucky member of the global Forza community make it to the top of the leaderboard! For more details on the Livery Editor or the Auction House, cruise over to Forzamotorsport.net and check out this week’s Pitpass Report.

Be sure to check out Forzamotorsport.net for updates on Turn 10’s efforts at the Game Developer’s Conference this past week in San Francisco, as well as new screenshots of a few of the American production cars.

Elderly Nuns + Video Games...a match made in heaven

CHATAWA, Mississippi – March 5, 2007 — Two years ago, 72-year-old Sister Marie Richard Eckerle, School Sisters of Notre Dame (SSND) bought a copy of Bookworm for a computer at St. Mary of the Pines, a community for retired SSND in Chatawa, Mississippi. She was a fan of the video game, and her enthusiasm soon spread among her community members. She recalls, “It quickly became popular with so many others that we knew we’d better get more copies!”

Now St. Mary of the Pines owns a dozen more copies of Bookworm and has expanded their collection to include other “casual” video games, such as Bejeweled and Chuzzle. The games have become a regular – and important – part of daily life at St. Mary of the Pines. Staff and residents use them not only for entertainment, but also as a means of encouraging socialization and mental stimulation.

The St. Mary of the Pines story is not so unusual. It mirrors the astonishingly broad movement of older consumers toward family-friendly, non-violent puzzle, word and action fare—so-called “casual” video games. According to the latest industry data, more than 50 million consumers age 50 and above now play these casual games on a regular basis. From the mental and even physical health benefits, to the sense of accomplishment and social interaction and bonding opportunities with both peers and children/grandchildren, older consumers have found a lot to like in casual games.

And this tremendous community of older gamers is growing as the medical and elder care communities adopt casual games into a greater variety of treatments.

Dr. Carl Arinoldo, a Stony Brook NY-based psychologist of 25 years and an author and expert on stress management, uses games such as Bookworm himself and recommends them to his patients. “I find that these types of games are wonderful as a stress management tool, while at the same time providing excellent cognitive exercise,” he explains. “And studies have shown that these kinds of games also offer distraction for patients suffering from chronic pain—some patients cite actual pain relief – and provide mental stimulation that can stave off, or slow the progress of, Alzheimer’s, dementia and other brain/memory disorders.”

The community of sisters at St. Mary of the Pines is familiar with such games as Bookworm and Bejeweled. One community member, Sister Theresa Dietz, 76, SSND, whose ministry includes monitoring the computers in St. Mary of the Pines’ Computer Cove, said she has noticed some of her companion sisters who normally don’t rush to experience new activities, especially using the computer, interested in the games. “Once some of the sisters saw us playing Bookworm, they wanted to know what the game was all about,” she recalls. “Some of those sisters included sisters who had previously shied away from the computers because they felt they could not manage the movements of the mouse well. They made a real effort in order to play the game, and in a week or two their control of their hands and fingers was noticeably improved. It was Bookworm that seemed to appeal enough to make them overcome their struggles with the mouse.”

Another community member, Sister Jean Marie Smith, SSND, age 60, says Bookworm in particular has helped her cope with her Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), a cognitive disability found most commonly in adults. “I play the games for about an hour each day to keep my attention focused and my mind stimulated in a controlled, structured way,” she says.

Dr. Arinoldo surmised that older players’ motives for playing were influenced by a growing awareness of the importance of “mental calisthenics” for maintaining a healthy mind. “Older players don’t cite ‘entertainment’ as the primary reason for playing. It seems reasonable to assume that older players of these games are likely to recognize the benefits of cognitive exercise more readily than younger consumers,” he said. “When you’re 65 or 70 and you play a game of Talismania or Chuzzle, you’re more likely to identify improvements in your mental acuity that might go unnoticed by younger people.”

Sister Theresa marvels at the motivational effects and increased social interaction the games have inspired. “We have residents suffering from Alzheimer’s and other infirmities who now have more ways – and more incentive – to socialize with other residents by playing the games together,” she states. “We have one sister in particular who enjoys playing Bookworm and Bejeweled every chance she gets. She finds the games relaxing and a different kind of mental stimulus. All in all, the games have been great for many of us, for many different reasons.”

PopCap Games® (www.popcap.com), the leading developer and publisher of casual games, recently conducted a survey involving more than 2,000 casual game players, and found that:

· 47% of all casual game players are 50 or older, and nearly 20% are 60 or older

· Of players 50 or older, 74% cited cognitive exercise (mental workouts), 86% noted stress relief, and 62% chose memory strengthening as benefits they experience from playing casual games

· Fully 32% of respondents 50 or older said the games distract them from chronic pain/fatigue, and nearly one in ten said they derive actual relief from chronic pain/fatigue when playing

· “Seniors” play casual games for longer periods of time, and more frequently, than younger players. 65% of players age 50 and up say they play the games on a daily basis, compared to less than half of younger players.

· As the single most important reason for playing, subjects age 50 and up chose “stress relief/relaxation” (39%) and “mental workout” (21%)

· 86% of older survey respondents said that they felt playing casual games offered them physical and/or mental health benefits, compared to 74% of under-50 respondents

· Only 18% of subjects 50 or older selected action games as one of their genre preferences, compared to 50% of respondents under the age of 50

· Older players chose puzzle (84%), word (66%), and card (57%) games as their top three genres of video games

Carol Vorderman's Aerobics!

Dundee, UK, March 6th 2007. Casual games specialist Denki today announced the creation of Carol Vorderman's Mind Aerobics, a unique new game for digital interactive television. Other versions are also available to access on your PC and Mobile

The game has been created to give players a way to exercise and keep their brain in peak condition, no matter what their age, education or experience with videogames.

Carol Vorderman's Mind Aerobics will be launched in March on Sky television's Gamestar service. This is the first time this type of game has been made available through digital interactive television.

The importance of keeping your mind active and alert has been recognised in the past twelve months, with many doctors and healthcare specialists recommending that people of all ages try puzzles, quizzes and other mental activities to keep their minds fit and healthy.

The game offers a combination of logic puzzles, spatial awareness, simple maths, memory and pattern matching puzzles. This helps to determine the player's Brain Fitness Index (BFI), which measures the brain's flexibility and all-round abilities - rather than a single aspect such as IQ – and displays it as a number between 1 – 100.

Once the player has started playing with the game, it will establish their starting BFI. By playing Carol Vorderman's Mind Aerobics, once a day, the player can expect over time, to improve their BFI rating by around 20 points.

Each session takes around 10 minutes to complete and provides a series of mini tasks covering many different areas of mind aerobics.

As the player's BFI improves and they move up a level, the game recognises and rewards their achievements, then offers new challenges to ensure the player's brain is constantly stimulated and offered fresh new activities and tasks.

Colin Anderson, Managing Director of Denki, says, “Games are often criticised for being brainless and violent, yet the latest research shows that playing games which encourage mental stimulation can be very beneficial. From the very beginning, Denki's philosophy has been to create the best digital toys and games, to encourage fun, learning and prove that there's more to gaming than explosions and guns. We are delighted to be involved in the creation of Carol Vorderman's Mind Aerobics and believe it will encourage people who have never tried a game to give gaming a go. I’m sure they will be pleasantly surprised.”#

Andy Nuttall, Head of PC Games at Sky, agrees “With versions for PC and mobile as well as Sky television, Carol Vorderman's Mind Aerobics offers a way for everyone, no matter what age, level of education, gender or feelings about 'videogames' to relax, take time for themselves and keep their mind healthy, stimulated and active.”

Carol Vorderman said, “Denki have done a great job of bringing the benefits of Mind Aerobics to interactive viewers.”

Carol Vorderman's Mind Aerobics will be available on Sky Television's Gamestar service in March 2007 and via your PC and mobile.

Dawn of Magic PC

Deep Silver unveils new details regarding character development in the eagerly anticipated Dawn of Magic.

Basingstoke, 6th March 2007 – Dawn of Magic holds a lot of surprises and unexpected turns in store for its players. One of them is the extensive character morphing system, which gradually adapts each avatar's appearance to the acquired skills and the spells the player has employed.

Thus, a mage dealing with Earth Magic will sprout twigs from his shoulders later in the game, until he ends up looking like a walking tree. A wizard who uses Lightning spells, on the other hand, may turn into a crackling metal suit of armor showering all around him with sparks. In extreme cases, sorcerers may even grow the legs of a spider or the wings of an angel. These effects can be combined in many different ways and not only have visual results, but also directly affect the game, bringing with them bonuses and penalties specific to certain spells. A magician who is experienced only in dealing with electricity may have an advantage when it comes to Air Magic, but his resistance to Water Magic will be low. This sort of interplay is abundant in the game, and guarantees numerous possible game combinations.

More details on the game can be found at http://dom.deepsilver.com.

Dawn of Magic is scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2007.

Sony Tarantino - again with the ads!

I just saw Sony's latest assumed PS3 advert and it's very, very strange. Apart from not mentioning the PS3 at all, with no PlayStation logo in sight - just a web address in small print at the end of the ad, most people aren't going to know what this thing is about. thisisliving.tv is home to this advert, and is the web address the ad urges you to check out - but, at time of going to press, the website isn't really fully functional as of yet.

As for the ad itself, well, I'll let you decide, but wiuth me being a fan of twisted, weird goingons, I actually liked it - and I was disappointed to learn that it was indeed to do with the PS3, and it wasn't some new horror film coming soon to a cinema near you! I'm still undecided whether I should get a PS3 or not, and while this strange Tarantino-style advert certainly looks nice, it doesn't help my decision in the slightest. Check it out here!

Impossible Mission - Wii, PSP, PS2, DS

London, United Kingdom –2nd March 2007

System 3 again delighted video game historians when it today announced the re-launch of the classic Epyx Commodore 64 title, Impossible Mission, with some special enhancements for the Nintendo DS™, PlayStation®Portable, PlayStation®2 and Nintendo Wii™.

It's hard to believe that it was twenty-five years since the original release. Impossible Mission was the first game to use real synthesized speech, an incredible development when first unleashed on the 8-bit formats. The original game included a random game-map system which ensured that no two games were the same. Although the original still stands the test of time today, inclusion of brand new graphics and sound ensures that Impossible Mission is primed to thrill a brand new audience.

The gamer takes the role of a secret agent attempting to stop evil genius Professor Elvin Atombender who has been tampering with National Security Computers. Players must penetrate Atombender's base, attempting to recover parts of the system password whilst avoiding deadly robots in a race against time.

Whilst the game has been re-written from the ground up and features new graphics, 3D objects, new Sound Effects and Music the gameplay remains impressively loyal with the game layout changing for every new game. There are now three main characters to choose from plus a brand new tutorial mode. The player can now chose from three game modes, new, original and for the purist; a hybrid mode with the original gameplay using the updated graphics.

The PSP versions offer an unusual feature which allows players to send a full copy of their game to a friend by Wireless so they can try it for themselves.

"We've worked hard to bring Impossible Mission up-to-date whilst keeping the original gameplay that made the game such a hit in the eighties", commented CEO, Mark Cale, "We're particularly pleased with the handheld versions which will ensure this historic game can be enjoyed by a completely new generation of gamers".

Impossible Mission is part of the Epyx back catalogue and will be available Quarter Two.

So Blonde!

Hamburg/Germany: March 02, 2007 – She is young, she is pretty and she comes from rich parents: Sunny Blonde has little to worry about in her life. Especially not today: the 17-year-old American beauty is on a luxurious Atlantic cruise with her parents, celebrating their wedding anniversary. But it’s not really a party after Sunny’s taste – she’d rather be getting down with her friends. That’s why she uses every chance she gets to get away from her parents and explore the ship. Just when the ship passes by the Bermuda Islands, the inevitable occurs: a heavy thunderstorm rolls in, the cruise ship is overwhelmed by the sea. Sunny passes out and is transported into one of the vessel’s lifeboats…

Sunny comes to on a gorgeous sandy beach on an island covered with palm trees. She can barely recall what happened. Still slightly dazed, she does register that there are no other passengers anywhere near – she seems to be stranded on the island all by herself.

But an involuntary stay on a completely unfamiliar island, with no way of knowing how she will ever leave it, is one thing. More severe for Sunny is that all of a sudden she will have to make do without all her luxurious accessories: her cell phone gets no coverage, her make-up is all messed up, and there doesn’t appear to be a shopping mall in walking distance. And her troubles are only getting started: through some freak of time and space, she seems to have been transported several centuries back and landed in the middle of an age ruled by pirates and buccaneers.

Quite a problem for Sunny Blonde – and it’s up to PC gamers to solve it in the crazy adventure game So Blonde, which dtp entertainment unveiled today. Renowned adventure game writer Steve Ince (“Broken Sword”) is responsible for the game’s unusual story. Gamers will not only be faced with adventure and puzzling riddles but will see the protagonist grow from rich, spoiled luxury girl to a courageous survivor.

So Blonde, developed by French team Wizarbox has it all: a beautiful (anti-)heroine, jet black humor that goes far beyond trite clichés, gorgeous cartoon graphics and a ton of gameplay surprises.

dtp entertainment will publish So Blonde worldwide under the ANACONDA label, with a November release date set for German-speaking territories.

Ankh: Heart of Osiris - PC

XIDER, a new games label and part of bhv Software in Germany, a leading publisher of entertainment software, has launched the exciting sequel to its 2005 hit PC game Ankh. ‘Ankh: Heart of Osiris’ transports the player back into Ancient Egypt to explore the sensual bazaars, subterranean temple and dark alleys of Cairo as the young adventurer and reluctant daredevil Assil. The new game will be available from 27th April’07 priced £19.99.

Having rid himself of the death curse and saved the Ankh from the hands of Osiris, the wicked God of the Underworld, Assil has now woken up in the dingy back streets of Cairo with a blinding hangover only to discover the Ankh is missing! With no time to lose, Assil must recover the Ankh and ensure that it doesn’t fall into the hands of Osiris; to do so would be a catastrophe enabling him to launch his own fiendish plan.

Ankh: Heart of Osiris takes the game play, characters and locations to new levels. The environments are richer and more detailed, allowing for more in-depth exploration and a vivid in-game experience. Superior voice acting, cinematic full motion sequences plus sophisticated graphics with dynamic light, shadow and glow effects provide additional dimensions to the game.

Fans of the original game will be delighted by the return of the main character Assil, in an exciting new and zany story that will amuse and engage at every turn. Like its predecessor, Heart of Osiris is very easy to play with only a mouse. Now players are able to play as Assil, Thara and the Pharoah and each of these three characters has a more defined personality with cool, character-specific tasks.

XIDER has responded to the feedback of loyal players and ensured that many of the favourite features have been included and developed further to enhance the experience. The game enables players to get more involved with the main characters and immerse themselves into the mysterious Egyptian world. The Ankh trademark sense of black humour also continues to shine at every click of the mouse.

Helmut Schmitz, Managing Director at bhv Software says, “Ankh was such a success that we felt it was important to keep as close as possible to the original format. This has been achieved but greatly enhanced with new storylines, locations and characters. Fans of Ankh and new PC gamers won’t be disappointed by the feature-rich and lively adventures on offer in Ankh: Heart of Osiris.”

For the most part the functions remain the same as in the first version with a few changes and additions. A ‘hands-on’ codewheel has also been incorporated into the game and is included in the box. This helps to solve a cocktail puzzle inside the game that will unlock the title for the player. It’s a clever and entertaining twist that serves not only as a copy protection device, but it is also a great collector’s item.

Ankh: Heart of Osiris is available at £19.99 from all good retail outlets from 27th April 2007.
